If your sickness is above the neck, you can workout within reason. If it's below the neck, stay home and let yourself rest.

I've heard that you shouldn't, but I do sometimes... it feels good to sweat out the germs (or at least that's what I think I'm doing in my head!).

I think it depends on just how sick you are, and what you have. If you're REALLY sick w/the flu or something then it's better to get a lot of rest. If all you have is a little cold then I think it's probably fine, but if you are going to a public gym (or even if you have exercise equipment at home) make sure to use sanitary wipes on the machine(s) after your workout so you don't spread germs!

If you have a cold, you can workout but it should not be an intense workout.

If I have a little cold, I try to at least go biking. It's a little less stressful on your joints (especially if your body is achy) and keeps you active so you can boost your immune system.

It depends on how sick you are and what kind of exercise you want to do, I think. For example, if you have a fever and your joints are aching, you probably need rest, not three miles on the treadmill. If you are, say, getting over a mild cold, working out is probably fine as long as you are careful not to spread germs. Personally, I've made myself feel a lot more miserable and tired when I exercised too vigorously while I was coming down with something. It's just harder to recover from overly strenuous physical work when your body is already exhausted fighting the germs. Light to moderate exercise is probably okay. It just depends on what you know you can handle, but it's not the time to push for new personal records or anything. They say that regular exercise improves your immune system in general, but the time to really develop that habit is when you are well.

I did this recently. I woke up with a slight sore throat on the first day of my lap swimming class for the winter session in school, and decided to swim regardless. I ended up feeling terrible for the rest of the day, and I haven't been back to 100% since then. It's been 5 weeks.
